ARGEGNO
Argegno is a delightful medieval village located along the western shore of Lake Como, along the Strada Regina. Its colorful houses overlooking the lake immediately struck me and convinced me to stop for an ice cream in the pretty square. From here there are alleys leading to the stone village and the Roman bridge over the Telo river.

ISOLA COMACINA
Comacina Island is the only island on Lake Como and can be reached with the Lake Como Navigation service or by taxi-boat from Ossuccio. The island played a decisive role in the history of Como in Roman times and in the Middle Ages thanks to its city walls and a strategic system of fortifications for which it is still called a castle today. In 1169, however, it was razed to the ground by the Como people, allies of Barbarossa, and found new life only at the beginning of the 20th century when it became a colony for artists. In 1900, excavation campaigns were also started which brought to light an important archaeological palimpsest from the Roman era and today it is one of the most interesting archaeological areas in northern Italy.

VILLA DEL BALBIANELLO
Villa del Balbianello was built in 1787, on the ruins of an ancient Franciscan monastery, by order of Cardinal Durini. Since then it had several owners until reaching the mountaineer and explorer Guido Monzino who purchased it in 1974 and furnished it with memorabilia from his explorations. Upon his death in 1988, Monzino left Villa del Balbianello as a legacy to the FAI – Italian Environment Fund. The Villa is located in a unique position being the Laveno Promontory, the only promontory on Lake Como and is surrounded by well-kept gardens. Villa del Balbianello also owes its great fame to some film productions. In fact, some scenes from Star Wars – Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Agent 007 – Casino Royale were filmed here.
