WHAT TO SEE IN MILAN

Be surprised to discover many corners of this city that never sleeps!

Below you can find some tips and information so you can tour the city in total freedom.

FAST SIGHTSEEING!
If you only have some time to take a tour, take metro line 3 (yellow) and go to the cathedral. Walk to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. You will stroll through the shops as you follow to the Teatro alla Scala. Then go back and walk towards San Babila to enter Via Montenapoleone.
THE DUOMO
The “Duomo” Cathedral is literally in the center of Milan. Streets radiate from the cathedral or circle it. The cathedral occupies a site that has been the most central location in the city since its founding. The Duomo Cathedral dominates the crowded square, always full of shoppers, tourists, street artists and eclectic people. It is possible to visit it inside and on top up to the “Madonnina” and snooping in the “Museo del Duomo”. The square is surrounded by bars, cafés and boutiques. Between the Cathedral and the Scala Opera House stands the famous Gallery Vittorio Emanuele II, a magnificent shopping arcade in Milan, covered with a glass and iron roof. The interior of the impressive five story structure is decorated with patriotic mosaics and statues.
MONUMENTAL CEMETERY
The Monumental Cemetery is more than just a cemetery. The huge number of sculptures and monuments built for the graves of the rich and famous in Milan has transformed the cemetery into a rather impressive open-air museum. Take underground line 5 (purple) and get off at Monumentale stop.
TRAVEL WITH CHILDREN
Take the underground line 1 (red) and get off at Cairoli. Take a look at the castle and enjoy the many museums it houses. Then take a walk to the Museum of Science and Technology, walk (8 minutes) to the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie to see the Last Supper. Here, on weekends, events and workshops for children are organized.
SAN SIRO SIGHTSEEING
Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the San Siro stadium and the museum Casa Milan, in a self-guided tour. Take the metro line 5 (purple) and get off at San Siro stop.
MILAN FOR ART LOVERS
Brera District Brera Museum Navigli District If you love art go to Brera District (metro line 2 stop Lanza) and enjoy visiting the “Pinacoteca di Brera” (Brera Museum). Then take the metro line 2 (green) get off at Porta Genova, to go to the Navigli rivers. This area is a way to see a different Milan! So, you can see an artistic and beautiful area of Milan called “Navigli “. Walking on the towpath of the “Naviglio Grande” you will encounter a bustling and a bit bohemian neighbourhood: the courtyards that inter-connect in a maze of little alleyways and streets are home to art galleries, antique dealers and bookshops, crowded with trendy restaurants, boutiques and ethnic markets. Visit the Brera art gallery for free every first Sunday of every month.

TIPS

SHOPPING IN MILAN
Take the underground line 1 (red) and get off at Porta Venezia. Enjoy shopping on Corso Buenos Aires, one of the most important and famous shopping streets in Milan for shopping. Then take a stroll in San Babila and visit the fashion district which begins on Via Montenapoleone, the place to be if you are looking for haute couture and luxury fashion.
APERITIVO HAPPY HOUR IN MILAN
Enjoy an Aperitivo or dinner on a boat on the Navigli rivers! metro line 2 (green) Porta Genova stop. A must-do in Milan is a night on the “Corso Como” metro line 2 (green) Garibaldi stop. In summertime the best place to be for Aperitivo is Columns of San Lorenzo metro line 2 (green) Sant’Ambrogio stop. Check out the Birrificio Lambrate in Città Studi District, the oldest micro-brewery in the city, is a great spot for a beer.
FASHION WEEK
Visit via Tortona during the fashion week and enjoy the Atmosphere, among stylish crowds and inspired designers.
STREET MARKETS IN MILAN
Visit the antique street market on the Navigli rivers every last Sunday of every month. If you like second hand and vintage clothes, visit the Senigallia street market every Saturday on Navigli rivers. If you love fashion don’t miss out the street market in Viale Papiniano every Saturday, there you will find brand names at fantastic prices.
LOOK FOR THE BULL!!
Inside the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, located on the ground within an octagonal floor pattern, there is a tiled mosaic depicting a bull which is reared up onto his hind legs. The tradition is that if a person puts their right heel on the bull’s testicular region and “turn on himself three times,” which is to actually rotate backwards, or counterclockwise, this will bring good luck!
